The
first in a series of four summer concerts in downtown Gonzales was held this
past Friday night with a good showing of local residents.
"I'm really pleased with how it went," said Greg Little, chairman
of the Gonzales Main Street promotions committee.
Redneck Jedi provided the music for the first event, held at Confederate Square
in Gonzales. There were also many other activities, including wagon rides
through the streets of the city, old time photos, the Farmers Market, cakes
sold by the Gonzales Junior High cheerleaders, the moonwalk, Tropical Freezies
and more.
Local businesses were also open during the evening and reported good sales
throughout the event.
"I think for our first time, it was a great success," said Little.
"The point of all of this is for people to have some fun and for others
to make a little money. I think we accomplished both."
This Friday will be the second concert featuring the Kyle Wayne Kutscher Band.
They will feature country music.
The same activities will also be taking place this Friday, including the wagon
rides, which were a very big success.
"I think the wagon rides were very popular," said Little. "They
were taking full loads of people all night long."
The concept of the Gonzales Main Street Summer Concert Series was born about
four months ago and the committee has been working on it since that time.
The mission of Gonzales Main Street is to promote business and activities
in the downtown area.
The concert series will shift locations after this weekend with the final
two to be held on Hero's Square. The third week will feature bluegrass music
and the fourth and final show will be oldies, including a classic car show.
